Acne & Acne Scars

Acne & Acne Scars

Acne is a common human skin disease, characterized by areas of skin with seborrhea (scaly red skin), comedones (blackheads and whiteheads), papules (pinheads), pustules (pimples), nodules (large papules) and possibly scarring. Acne affects mostly skin with the densest population of sebaceous follicles; these areas include the face, the upper part of the chest, and the back. Severe acne is inflammatory, but acne can also manifest in noninflammatory forms. The lesions are caused by changes in pilosebaceous units, skin structures consisting of a hair follicle and its associated sebaceous gland, changes that require androgen stimulation

Acne scars are the result of inflammation within the dermis brought on by acne. The scar is created by the wound trying to heal itself resulting in too much collagen in one spot. Physical acne scars are often referred to as “Icepick” scars. This is because the scars tend to cause an indentation in the skin’s surface. There are a range of treatments available. Although quite rare, the medical condition Atrophia Maculosa Varioliformis Cutis also results in “acne-like” depressed scars on the face.

• Ice pick scars: Deep pits, that are the most common and a classic sign of acne scarring.
• Box car scars: Angular scars that usually occur on the temple and cheeks, and can be either superficial or deep, these are similar to chickenpox scars.
• Rolling scars: Scars that give the skin a wave-like appearance.
• Hypertrophic scars: Thickened, or keloid scars.

Age Spots & Aging Face

Age Spots & Aging Face

Age spots also known as liver spots are blemishes on the skin associated with aging and exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun. They range in color from light brown to red or black and are located in areas most often exposed to the sun, particularly the hands, face, shoulders, arms and forehead, and the scalp if bald. Although liver spots were once incorrectly believed to be caused by liver problems, they are physiologically unrelated to the liver, save for a similar color.

From the age of 40 onwards the skin is less able to regenerate from sun exposure, and liver spots are very common in this age group, particularly in those who spend time in sun.

To treat age spots and aging faces, Mondello Medical Spa suggests the following:
C02 Laser Resurfacing
Botox
Juvederm
IPL Photo Facial
Obagi Nu-Derm

Broken Capillaries

Broken Capillaries

Broken capillaries are commonly found on the cheeks or nose area these appear as small red/pink threads under the skins surface, most. Broken capillaries occur when the capillary walls narrow and widen too quickly causing the muscles int he walls to tear. This in turn allows the blood to seep out resulting in broken capillaries. Dehydrated, dry and sensitive skins often have thin skin that provides less protection and therefore, these skin types are the most commonly effected.

Common causesof broken capillaries are:
• Hot conditions
• Wind blowing on the face
• Burning i.e. sunburn
• Moving from one extreme temperature to another
• Pressure i.e. squeezing spots or glasses pressing on the face

To treat broken capillaries, Mondello Medical Spa suggests the following:
IPL Photo Facial
C02 Laser Resurfacing

Cellulite

Cellulite

Cellulite is a topographic skin change claimed to occur in most postpubertal females. It presents as a modification of skin topography evident by skin dimpling and nodularity that occurs mainly in women on the pelvic region, lower limbs, and abdomen, and is caused by the herniation of subcutaneous fat within fibrous connective tissue, leading to a padded or orange peel–like appearance.

To treat cellulite, Mondello Medical Spa suggests the following:
Lipotron

Unwanted Hair

Unwanted Hair

Unwanted hair is common on the upper lip, the chin, cheeks, on the back, legs, fingers, lower abdomen, bikini line, feet, and toes. Hair in these locations can be caused by a variety of factors, including genetics; certain medications such as hormones or steroids; or even medical abnormalities, such as higher androgen (male hormone) levels or conditions of the endocrine system, such as polycystic ovarian syndrome.

To treat unwanted hair, Mondello Medical spa suggests the following:
• Laser Hair Removal

Under Eye Circles & Crows Feet

Under Eye Circles & Crows Feet

Dark circles under the eyes tend to age us more than wrinkles or grey hair. Discoloration of the under-eye skin affects many of us from time to time. For others, the dark circles can persist as a long-term feature, sometimes as a result of an illness, but often as a result of allergies, inadequate sleep, and even heredity.

Crows’ feet are small wrinkles which appear around the eye, classically starting at the outer corner of the eye. Many people associate crows’ feet with age, as they tend to deepen and expand with age, and some people consider crow’s feet to be an undesirable trait. A number of products and services can be found for people who want to reduce their crows’ feet, although most dermatologists agree that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure in this case, and recommend a number of techniques for preventing the formation of crow’s feet in the first place.
As you might imagine from the name, crows’ feet can look sort of like the foot of a many-toed crow planted on the corner of the eye. They typically start small, slowly expanding and deepening with time, and they tend to be the first wrinkles to appear on the face. Over time, wrinkles will appear on other regions of the face as well, such as the forehead and cheeks.

To treat these, Mondello Medical Spa recommends the following:
Obagi ELASTIderm Eye Treatment

Sagging Jowls

Sagging Jowls

When people realize that their jowls – the lower part of the cheeks – have begun to sag, they may visit a plastic surgeon and say they want their jowls to “go away” or they say they “want to see their neck again.” Usually, the next question is “how do I accomplish this without surgery?”
It helps to think about the face like a grape and a raisin. When a grape is dehydrated, it loses volume and turns into a raisin. With the aging process, the face loses fat and volume, which leads to loose skin and wrinkles.

To treat sagging jowls, Mondello Medical Spa recommends the following:
• Our Signature CO2 + Erbium
• Restalyne
Mesotherapy

Rosacea

Rosacea

Rosacea typically begins as redness on the central face across the cheeks, nose, or forehead, but can also less commonly affect the neck, chest, ears, and scalp. In some cases, additional symptoms, such as semi-permanent redness, telangiectasia (dilation of superficial blood vessels on the face), red domed papules (small bumps) and pustules, red gritty eyes, burning and stinging sensations, and in some advanced cases, a red lobulated nose (rhinophyma), may develop.

To treat rosacea, Mondello Medical Spa recommends the following:
IPL Photo Facial
• Obagi Rosaclear

Varicose/Spider Veins

Varicose/Spider Veins

Varicose veins are veins that have become enlarged and tortuous. The term commonly refers to the veins on the leg, although varicose veins can occur elsewhere. Veins have leaflet valves to prevent blood from flowing backwards (retrograde). Leg muscles pump the veins to return blood to the heart, against the effects of gravity. When veins become varicose, the leaflets of the valves no longer meet properly, and the valves do not work. This allows blood to flow backwards and they enlarge even more. Varicose veins are most common in the superficial veins of the legs, which are subject to high pressure when standing. Besides cosmetic problems, varicose veins are often painful, especially when standing or walking.

To treat varicose veins, Mondello Medical Spa recommends the following:
Scolerotherapy
Lightpod

Wrinkles

Wrinkles

A wrinkle is a fold, ridge or crease in the skin. Skin wrinkles typically appear as a result of aging processes such as glycation or, temporarily, as the result of prolonged (more than a few minutes) immersion in water. Wrinkling in the skin is caused by habitual facial expressions, aging, sun damage, smoking, poor hydration, and various other factors. With prolonged water exposure, the outer layer of skin starts to absorb water. The skin doesn’t expand evenly, causing it to wrinkle. Depletion of water in the body, as occurs with dehydration, can also cause this puckering of the skin. Cortisol causes degradation of skin collagen.

To treat wrinkles, Mondello Medical Spa recommends the following:
Botox
• Obagi Aerolaze
